Indian Government Officially Bans 59 Chinese Apps Including TikTok

News

The list of apps also includes Tick Talk and UC Browser. “We have banned 59 apps which pose a threat to the unity and security of India. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has banned 59 apps under Rule 69A of the IT Act in view of different threats,” the government said in the order. Commenting on the decision, Shergat’s public policy director Berges Malu said the government was taking a “welcome step” against platforms that pose threats to privacy, cyber security and national security. We expect the government to continue its support for the Indian startup ecosystem.
