First open WhatsApp of your phone. Then click on Settings. Then click on Account. You will see two-step verification option. Click on it and enable it.

This will allow you to create a 6-digit PIN. The advantage of this is that any new phone will require this pin when setting up WhatsApp. Of particular note, keep in mind that this PIN will be different from the verification code and SMS that comes with WhatsApp setup.
